Who doesn’t love a good true crime story? I for one am all but addicted to true crime podcasts. I am always listening to one when I design, so I go through a lot of episodes. In my quest to find the best true-crime podcast there is, I stumbled across the gem that is “Small Town Murder.” Not only are these episodes super long meaning they can keep me fueled for hours at a time, but James and Jimmy have somehow managed to turn true crime into a comedy show. For such a great show, their biggest joke might be their branding. So I decided to give them a make-over.

James always makes it a point to give their episodes the most absurd names, so I just knew that hand-drawn type was the way to go for this project. I picked three of the best episode titles and had an absolute blast illustrating them in Procreate. The muted colors combined with the playful type strike the same balance between fun and serious that their show does.

Some runner up titles include, “Frozen Blood Puddles & Banana Liqueur”, “Building a Murder Fence” and “The Creepy Corpse Snuggler.” Who knows, come back in a few weeks and I may have added those episodes to this project! While they haven’t yet hired me to redo their branding, they did leave me this review: “these are great!”
